Crew History

Venturing Crew 149 was founded by Ross K., Don W., and Jake W. Ross and Jake knew Troop 149 had previously had a Venturing Crew which had deteriorated and were interested in reviving it. They brought the idea to Don W. who was glad to take on the idea and become the Advisor. Jake and Ross assembled a group of scouters from the troop to put the crew together and they asked Friendship Presbyterian Church (pictured below) to be the charter organization in 2003, which they happily accepted. After about four months of planning the crew had its first meeting and elected positions. The first President was Ross K., the two vice presidents were Matthew S. and Jake W., the treasurer was Coulter H., and the Secretary was Travis T. The adult leadership was slim (except for the Crew Committee Chair who could lose some weight) with Don W. as the Advisor and Doug K. as the Committee Chair. Since then the crew has grown very rapidly, reaching over 15 youth and 5 adults.

Crew Meetings

The crew meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday nights at 8:30 pm at our sponsoring church. At the meetings we plan trips, and service projects. We also work on fundraising and teaching skill to other scouting groups.

Activities

Venture Crew 149 isn't all about meetings though. Venturing offers a variety of adventure activities such as backpacking, kayaking, skiing, and rafting. The crew plans a trip once every two months. The crew also tries to have a service project approximately once every 4 months. In the past this has been cleaning up the OCMS high adventure course and helping out with the Martin Luther King Jr. clean up day.
