CREW:
What a weekend!! I would like to claim that I made it through without getting tired or sore but that would be too big a lie for even me. Having been flooded out of our original weekend, we regrouped for the weekend before Labor Day. We arrived at Sandy Creek Park after watching Mary E. (aka Priestess) blaze around the cross country course. After a little warm up with some Frisbee tossing and ant stomping, Dee and Ross arrived to set up Toli. After a review of the rules and a short refresher course on emergency first aid, the games began in earnest. Nathan and Sam were flying around the field, scoring and generally making a nuisance of themselves for the other team, David and Michael were laying down some devastating tackles, Johnny, Jake, and Chris played solidly from offense to defense, and Ross and Paul along with Dee showed us how the game was really played. After several hours of Toli in the hot sun, everyone was ready to hit the lake. Several Crew members rented paddle boats and managed to get chased by the pontoon patrol. I won't name any names but their initials were David, Jake, Chris, Johnny, Sam, Nathan, and Adrian. Way to shine as a beacon of scout ethics to the world, folks! After a nice cool down swim for most of us and some Suez Canal construction on the beach by Nathan and Sam, it was back to the killing fields for some Ultimate Frisbee. Had some nice moments with Cheryl chasing Nathan down and Don huffing and puffing to keep up with Johnny. Several proud moments for all concerned with glorious catches and throws, face plants, and other good, clean fun. Kudos to Adrian for her excellent photos. Supper time came upon us along with the logistical problem that we had not packed a stove. Proving that we can handle any crisis without flinching, our able chefs cooked everything over a charcoal fire including what will long be considered in the annals of Crew 149 lore to be the best pot of mac and cheese ever tasted. Thanks Adrian! After a flashlight powered clean up at the pavilion, it was off to the Crow's Nest for a well deserved night of repose. Strangely enough, no one seemed to have any trouble getting to sleep. After a quick bagel and friends breakfast, it was back to the church and our boring, humdrum lives. Ah, to be able to go Venturing full time! Thanks to all concerned but especially to David for setting everything up, to Paul M., Susan W., Kathy M., and Cheryl P. for serving as adult participants, and to Ross and Dee for arranging for our Toli game. Special Awards as follows: Big Hair of the Day; Chris, New Chef of the Year and Heap Big Life Photographer; Adrian, Best Toli Carnage; Johnny ( who still has an imprint of the Toli ball on his cheek), and to all participants for not having to visit the hospital even once. Good job! In the immortal words of Chris, "we have to do this again real soon."
